Bryan Beckman

Finally, my entire adult life, I have strongly supported women’s reproductive rights, including the right to access birth control and abortion care. I firmly believe the government should play no role in an individual’s personal decisions about their own body. Reproductive healthcare is deeply personal and complex, and those decisions should be made between a patient and their doctor — not politicians. Every individual deserves the freedom, privacy, and dignity to make their own healthcare choices.

Florida families should not subsidize massive data centers through either their tax dollars or their electric bills. Bryan will fight to end special state tax incentives for large data center developers and establish strong protections ensuring that the extraordinary electricity and infrastructure demands created by these facilities are paid by the companies creating those demands—not existing customers. Florida has already recognized the danger of shifting these costs onto everyone else. State policy should make that protection unequivocal:

Data centers pay their own way. No special taxpayer giveaways. No shifting infrastructure costs onto families. No higher household electric bills to subsidize massive corporate developments. Florida can welcome innovation without writing corporations a blank check.

Auto Insurance: Florida consistently ranks as one of the most expensive states for auto insurance in the U.S., with recent data (2025) showing it as the second most costly in the U.S.

We can also ease financial pressure on households by raising wages for critical workers, expanding Medicaid to reduce healthcare expenses, and providing targeted tax relief for low- and moderate-income families.

The affordability issues hitting us hard right now are a direct result of years and years of poor leadership in Tallahassee. Our elected officials have failed us- especially here in District 58. Once elected, I'm determined to introduce the Energy Freedom Plan as I work to lower costs for you. I've spent the last decade helping to lower energy bills for families, seniors, and churches.

That begins with investing in competitive salaries to attract and retain high-quality teachers, ensuring that all publicly funded schools (including charter and private voucher schools) meet the same transparency and state testing requirements, and creating a level playing field where every child is held to consistent academic expectations. It also requires reining in programs like Schools of Hope and restructuring the voucher system so that taxpayer dollars support student success, not corporate profit.

bryanbeckmanfl.com · Sources

The expansion of “Schools of Hope” continues to siphon public dollars into profit-driven charter operators that can use public school facilities and services at no cost, weakening neighborhood schools already stretched thin. At the same time, Florida’s universal voucher program lacks the oversight, transparency, and accountability taxpayers deserve—allowing public funds to flow to private institutions that are not held to the same academic standards or reporting requirements as public schools. Combined with lowest in the nation teacher pay and growing workloads, these pressures are driving talented educators out of the profession and destabilizing the classrooms our children depend on.

Why shouldn't a school, city, nonprofit, church, or small business be able to put solar on its property and immediately begin lowering its energy costs without making a huge upfront investment? Bryan will fight to expand access to Power Purchase Agreements, allowing third-party providers to finance and install solar systems while the customer purchases the electricity they generate. That can put rooftops, parking lots, schools and public buildings to work generating affordable energy. For taxpayers, that can mean lower government operating costs. For schools, it means more money can stay in the classroom instead of going toward utility bills. For businesses, it means another tool to control overhead and remain competitive.

Real energy reform requires public confidence that legislators are working for the people they represent—not the utilities they regulate. Bryan supports prohibiting regulated private utilities from making campaign contributions to the state candidates and elected officials who make decisions affecting those utilities. Utilities should make their case based on what is best for their customers—not through campaign checks and political influence.

Utilities need to increase their funding for energy efficiencies programs that will significantly lower energy bills, eliminate red tape for residential solar, and eliminate extra fees that have cost rate payers over $1 Billion.

bryanbeckmanfl.com · Sources

Bryan will fight to end this charge as quickly and responsibly as Florida law allows and reform state policy so families aren't left paying for decades when major utility investments fail. We paid enough. It's time to get this charge off our bills.

1. COMMUNITY SOLAR — SAVINGS FOR EVERYONE What about the family renting an apartment? The senior living in a condo? The homeowner whose roof isn't suitable for solar? They deserve access to clean, affordable energy too. Bryan will fight to expand community solar, allowing people who cannot install their own rooftop system to participate in a shared solar project and receive the financial benefits on their electric bills.

Duke Energy customers continue to see an Asset Securitization Charge on their monthly bills associated with the Crystal River nuclear plant. The plant stopped producing electricity years ago. Yet customers are still paying.

Solar shouldn't be limited to families who can afford a $20,000 or $30,000 rooftop installation. New small-scale plug-in solar technology can give consumers another affordable way to generate some of their own electricity. Bryan will work to establish sensible Florida standards allowing safe, certified plug-in solar systems while protecting consumers and the electric grid.

The Legislature can lower Florida’s cost of living by investing in truly affordable housing through increased workforce housing funds, stronger tenant protections, and incentives for local governments to build mixed-income communities. It can also reduce everyday expenses for working families by tackling property insurance costs, cracking down on record high utility rate hikes, and expanding access to affordable childcare.

Affordability is my top priority. I’ll fight to lower property insurance and utility costs, and expand Medicaid. Utility bills can be easily lowered by removing government and utility obstacles (at no cost to tax payers) to allow low cost community solar, and plug-in solar that many other states allow. We should also remove charges on our Duke bill for a failed nuclear plant that has cost us nearly $2 Billion. State government can stop making life more expensive and put families, seniors and small businesses first. My proposed Affordable Energy Plan will help everyone save money.

HEALTHCARE The single most impactful step we can take is to finally expand Medicaid. This would provide affordable coverage to more than 800,000 low-income workers, lower premiums for all, and reduce the burden of uncompensated care that our hospitals are forced to absorb. It is common sense, and it is long overdue. We must also increase transparency in our insurance markets, crack down on predatory junk plans, and shine a bright light on unjustified rate hikes. And we need to expand access to primary and preventive care — through community health centers, mobile clinics, telehealth, and school-based health programs — so families can get care early, instead of waiting until a medical crisis is unavoidable and unaffordable.
